On May 21, 2025, residents of Rajawali and Rawa Betik Villages gathered at the Rajawali Village Hall for an important event: a conservation awareness session on the White-winged Duck. Held in the Umbul Salam Resort area, SPTN II Bungur, this event was a collaborative initiative between Way Kambas National Park Authority, ALeRT, and Way Terusan Forest Management Unit (KPH) of the Lampung Provincial Forestry Service. It marked a significant step toward raising awareness and concern for the protection of wildlife in Way Kambas National Park—especially the White-winged Duck (Asarcornis scutulata), a critically endangered species facing increasing threats of extinction.
The White-winged Duck, a beautiful bird that inhabits swamps and riverbanks, is occasionally seen near buffer zone villages. This proximity highlights the crucial role of local communities in ensuring its safety and preserving its natural habitat. Through education, campaigns, and open dialogue, communities are encouraged to become key players in safeguarding this rare species and maintaining the ecological balance of their surroundings.
Conservation is not a task for one party alone—it is a shared responsibility.
Let us protect our forests, safeguard the White-winged Duck, and pass on a thriving natural world to future generations.
