As part of efforts to conserve the Bornean rhinoceros, on Wednesday, November 5, 2024, an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) procedure was carried out on a female rhino named Pahu, who resides at the Kelian Rhino Sanctuary.
This procedure marks a remarkable collaboration between the Ministry of Forestry (BKSDA East Kalimantan), IPB University, the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW) Germany, Aliansi Lestari Rimba Terpadu (ALeRT), and BKSDA East Kalimantan partner’s who are united in their commitment to the conservation of the Bornean rhino in Indonesia.
We hope this effort will bring positive results and that Pahu will one day have offspring.

Are more rhinos being moved into Kelian Rhino Sanctuary? I read an article in late February about one rhino being tracked but nothing since then.
Many Thanks.
For now, only Pahu resides here, while preparations to secure the remaining rhinos in Kalimantan are currently underway.
Any update on finding more rhinos to move into the Kelian sanctuary?
Many Thanks.
