Solid Steps to Conserve Kokoleceran, Banten’s Endemic Flora in Ujung Kulon

On August 12, 2025, a kick-off meeting was held to support conservation efforts in Ujung Kulon National Park by PT Pertamina Energy Terminal (PET) – LPG Terminal Tanjung Sekong. This support is focused on the preservation program of the rare plant Kokoleceran (Vatica bantamensis). The program began with seedling activities at the Ujung Kulon National Park Arboretum as the initial step in conservation efforts. The program will be implemented by BTNUK’s conservation partner, Aliansi Lestari Rimba Terpadu.

Kokoleceran is an endemic plant of Banten from the Dipterocarpaceae family, holding high ecological and cultural value, and has been designated as the mascot of Banten Province. The presence of this tree in Ujung Kulon National Park signifies the importance of the area as a natural habitat that continues to support the survival of unique species.

The main goal of this program is to preserve and strengthen the population of Kokoleceran to prevent it from becoming increasingly threatened. Through collaboration between the national park management and private sector support, this initiative is expected to enhance the success of endemic flora conservation while providing long-term benefits for the Ujung Kulon ecosystem and surrounding communities.

During this activity, representatives from all parties also had the opportunity to add new plant species to the Ujung Kulon National Park Arboretum. The species planted include burahol, merbau, picung, palahlar, and ciung.
