The Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) is a critically endangered species currently protected by the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Number P.20/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/6/2018 concerning “Protected Plant and Animal Species.” It is also listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List with a status of Critically Endangered (CR) and under Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), meaning it cannot be traded internationally.
